Search and Replace are powerful tools that allow you to search for and replace line items and/or line item values (such as component pricing, depreciation and other item properties) in an estimate.


The search tool is available in both Claims Connect and Mobile Claims; the Replace tool is only available in Mobile Claims. The Search and Replace buttons are located on the toolbar within the estimate. 

Note: The Replace button cannot be selected until search parameters have been entered.


Searching for Line Items

The Search button opens the Search Bar at the top of the estimate.


  • You may choose where you want to search for your keyword or value (Look in:) before entering they keyword in the search field, for:.

By default "Description" is chosen.  Click the dropdown menu to choose other options - for example, you may want to search for a specific Trade by choosing the "Trade" option from the drop down, before entering the name of that trade in the search field, for:.

Pricing Database allows you to search for items that belong to the specified pricing database.
Category allows you to search for items that belong to the specified database category. 

Trade allows you to search for items that belong to the specified trade.
Description allows you to search for items using the name, action and grade of the item.
Item allows you to enter the name of an item. Action and grade are not included in the name.

Action allows you to search for items based upon their action name. A list of the stand- ard actions found in databases is provided but you can also type an action name.

Gradallows you to search for items based upon their grade name. Attached Note Allows you to search for items that have the specified text in a note.

Tax allows you to search for items where the tax has or has not been applied. Each tax in the estimate is listed separately.

O&P allows you to search for items where the O&P has or has not been applied.

Coverage allows you to search for items that have been assigned to the specified coverage.

Provisional Item allows you to search for items that have been set as provisional items.


  • Click Find next to go to the next item that matches your search terms, or Filter to view all items in your estimate that match the search terms.


  • Below the primary search bar, additional options are also available:


Add criteria to create a compound search and add additional search bars.  You can use additional criteria to further narrow your search.

The compound search uses AND/OR operators and will search in the order of your added search bars.  Toggle between "AND" and "OR" operators by clicking on the operator (AND/OR).

To remove a search bar, click the "X" delete icon to the right of the search bar.



Save search to save your search for a future use.  Your saved search will be available in Claims Connect or Mobile Claims.

Load search to pull up one or more previously saved search.

Delete search to delete one or more previously saved searches.

Clear resets the search tool by removing all search bars, except the primary, clearing all criteria and removing all estimate filters.



Replacing (Modifying) Line Item Values


  • Once your search criteria are in place, you may toggle on the Replace tool by clicking the option in the toolbar.

Toggling on the Replace tool will add a "Replace" bar below your original search bars.


  • Choose the property you want to replace from the "Set:" drop-down menu.  You can then enter a value in the "to:" field.  The property you've identified will be changed to the value you enter into this field.


Available Set options: (for a description of what each of these options modifies, please see details below - section "Set:" options available with the Replace tool.)



  • Click "Replace" to change one line item's property, or "Replace all" to change all filtered items.

After you click on Replace or Replace all, you will hear a beep indicating the item was changed, and will see:

If it's not possible to change the item based on your identified criteria, you'll see a message indicating what you need to correct.  For example:


  • Additional replacement options are available:

Add Replacement to add additional replacement bars (for example, if you need to modify multiple criteria.)

Clear to reset the replacement bars. (You may also Delete a replacement bar by clicking the Delete (X) icon at the right.)



"Set:" options available with the Replace tool

Description: Text may be entered to describe the desired item for replacement (description of the item as it appears on the estimate.)  Example: in the image below, the description was set to "Test".

Line Item: Click on the <Select replacement item> link to choose an alternate line item from the pricing database in a dialog box.  You may also click Options drop-down to see further options to apply to line items: 

  • Reset Quantity Defaults - resets the quantity for the item to its default value, if applicable.  If the item has no default value the quantity is not changed.
  • Reset Depreciation - resets the depreciation of the item according to its default settings in the pricing database.

Action: Select a replacement action from the dropdown menu or enter one manually. The action entered must exist for an item, according to the database, or it will be ignored. If the chosen action is replace and multiple grades exist for the item, the default grade is used.

Grade: An estimate must first be filtered before setting the grade value. Select a replacement grade from the dropdown menu; the list will contain all grades from all items filtered in the estimate. The selected grade must exist for an item or it will be ignored.

Attached note: The entered text may also be used to append a new note to the line item or, when searching using the note criteria, can replace all the text or only the text specified in the search criteria

Waste included: Enter a value to change the included waste.  The new waste affects the materials price or quantity as governed by the waste settings on the Loss Summary page.

Credit item, Include subtraction, Apply O&P: For each of these options, use its corresponding checkbox to set the value that should be used for each matching item.

Unit materials, Unit equipment, Base wage, Paid leave, Taxes and Insurance, Trade rate: For each of these options, enter a numerical value and set the option property as an absolute value, or increase or decrease the option specified by this amount; the value must be specified as a dollar amount or percentage.

Unit hours: Enter a numerical value and set this property as an absolute value, or increase or decrease the unit hours by this amount.  The amount must be specified as a number of unit hours or a percentage.

Unit price: Enter a numerical value and set this property as an absolute value, or increase or decrease the unit price by this amount. The amount must be specified as a number of unit price or a percentage. You can also choose to have the difference applied proportionally among the item price components or to market conditions. 

Trade: Select the trade from the dropdown menu to set the desired item. Other trade rate components will change accordingly.

Depreciation method: box: % of value, Life Expectancy, Fixed amount or % per year.

Depreciation first year rate: When using the % per year depreciation option, sets the % depreciation for the first year.

Depreciation add. year rate: When using the % per year depreciation option, sets the % depreciation for the years after the first year.

Depreciation maximum rate: Sets the maximum % that an item may be depreciated.

Depreciation useful life: Allows you to specify over how many years an item should be depreciated.

Depreciation recoverability: If the item has depreciation, the depreciation may be set to recoverable or non-recoverable.

Depreciation applicability: Sets the option to apply depreciation to unit price or materials only.

Depreciation usage: Allows you to specify usage of an item such as New, Light, Normal or Heavy.

Apply min. charge adj.: Toggles the Apply Minimum Charge Adjustment property for the item(s).

Coverage: Changes the coverage to which an item is being applied.

Delete line item: Removes the line item from the estimate.

Provisional Item: The Provisional Item property will add an automatic note to an item to flag it so that you are reminded to return to it and adjust its details if needed.  Check the Provisional Item checkbox that appears in the "to:" field and click on Replace all to add the Provisional item property to all items defined in the Search bar.  Uncheck the box to perform the reverse action of removing the Provisional Item property from items it applies to.
